Reading & Phonics

Read Write Inc.

Synthetic phonics are taught through a lively and vigorous programme known as Read Write Inc. Below are some quotes from pupils about the Read Write Inc. programme.

“I like Freddie the frog best. He helps us with our letters and sounds.” (Aaron)

“In Read Write Inc, we work on lots of sounds and words. I like the sayings we use to help us remember a sound.” (Ebony)

Guided Reading

We teach Guided Reading using a variety of reading schemes which are levelled to own system. Below are some quotes from pupils about guided reading.

“In guided reading, we read lots of different books. We learn how to become good readers.” (Leah)

“I know how to check my reading, and I can now read with a storyteller’s voice.” (Reece)

Reading books

Below is some information about the reading books we use in school. Please click the links to see an example of the book.

Going up (Narrative text)/ In the home (Non fiction text) are repetitive texts required for emergent readers developing early reading and comprehension skills.

Frog Prince (Narrative, illustrated traditional tale) / Finding things (Non fiction text). These texts are targeted at the developing reader with comprehension becoming more of a focus.
