At Brambles Primary Academy, good relationships are fundamental to our ethos and our success in being a happy, caring and safe school. Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is lifelong learning about relationships, emotions, looking after ourselves, different families, sex, sexuality and sexual health. We aim for our children to acquire the appropriate knowledge, develop their skills and form positive beliefs, values and attitudes. RSE has a key part to play in the personal, social, moral and spiritual development of pupils. Our RSE curriculum aims to develop positive values and a moral framework that will guide pupils’ decisions, judgements and behaviour as they move into adolescence and adulthood. Pupils will understand the consequences of their actions and behave responsibly within all relationships. They will develop the confidence and self-esteem to value themselves and others and to have respect for individual conscience and the skills to judge what kind of relationships they want.

  • RSE  is taught based on the National Curriculum for Years 1 to 6 and the EYFS Curriulum Framework but is also embedded in other areas of the curriculum and day-to-day life of the school
  • A carefully planned whole school curriculum promotes the progression of RSE knowledge and offers the opportunity to revisit and remember previous learning in order to embed knowledge
  • The curriculum is sequenced under the three areas of:
    • Relationships (Caring Realtionships, Respectful Relationships, Families and People who care for me),
    • Health (Mental Wellbeing, Being Safe and Physical Health)
    • Sex Education
  • Sex Education is deleivered through a whole academy approach using the Christopher Winter Project
  • Online Safety is taught termly as part of our Computing Curiculum
  • Knowledge organisers outline the key new knowledge for each unit and the prior knowledge needed for pupils to make meaningful connections to new learning
